Under the muds in Tamulay, Polillo, Quezon hides an exotic creature that is unknown to many. Having its’ tail and head that look like they are from a scorpion and a crab’s pincer, the creature appears to be half scorpion- half lobster called Bulaso. In a feature story of Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, the team showed how Bulaso has brought the madness to the natives of Polillo and local tourists on this monster creature hiding under the mud. The residents from Polillo Quezon took the opportunity of having this 3-8ft. creature for their very own business. Some of these residents are Anthony, Mang Amor and Mang Gilbert. According to them, they make a trap that is made out of bamboo and dug it deep down the muds where the Bulasos usually hide to make sure that they won’t be able to escape. They leave it overnight and when the morning comes, the Bulasos are ready to be sold to the residents and even to the tourists of Polillo, Quezon. They sell every two pieces of Bulaso for only 25.00 pesos which makes both residents of Tamulay and local tourists of Polillo gone crazy over it by buying large amount of the mud lobster. Bulaso is not only known in the town because of its uniqueness. People are actually hooked in eating it because of its rich flavor. Some of the famous dishes cooked with Bulaso are Ginataang Bulaso and Estupado. The cooks never forget to clean the mud lobsters first before cooking to ensure the safety of the residents. “Mas masarap siya sa alimango,” said the resident of Polillo, Quezon as she savors the flavour of Bulaso. However, Dr. Montano Ramos stated that eating too much amount of Bulaso could affect the health of the one eating them. “Maski mababa ang kanyang calories, kung madami ka ring kakainin, yun ang problema. ‘Pag niluto mo yan, masusubstain niya na ang calories tsaka cholesterol na kakainin ng isang tao,” explained Dr. Ramos. Residents of Polillo, Quezon did not thought that under the dirty and sticky muds of their own town hides a very unusual creature that triggered their madness and at the same time, satisfaction for their very own stomachs.
